About Danny

I AM AN ARTIST!!! hahaha

Perrito Caliente!!!

Did you know that there is a Hot Dog Season?  YUP, it’s from Memorial Day to Labor Day and we typically eat 7 BILLION hot dogs.   Yes, Americans eat about 820 hot dogs every second during that period.  fart.

I don’t know why I love hot dogs so much????  Look, it’s not my favorite dish but there is something about it that makes me happy.  Maybe it’s because when I was a kid my mom often took me to New York City and for lunch we’d enjoy a dirty dog with sauerkraut and mustard.  Or, maybe it was my Catholic Elementary school that had a hot dog day every Thursday!!!  Everyone who went to that school can recall these special days.  We were all happy on Hot Dog Thursday!  Who knows where it started or how it happened, but I can tell you I am not alone!

In 2010 we spent more than 1.6 billion on hot dogs in our supermarkets.  Los Angeles residents consume more than any other city.  I found that interesting because NY has hot dog vendors EVERYWHERE!  Although we are second on the list of cities we spend the most money in retail stores buying hot dogs.  It totals 105 million dollars.  WOAH!  Holy Hot Dog!

My favorite are the ones produced in natural casings that are not removed.  These have that “snap” as you bite into them.  YUM!  or Barf.  Depending on if you read where the natural casing comes from.  Did you know that if variety meats such as hearts and liver are used the U.S. Department of Agriculture requires this to be declared on the package.  You will see statements like “with variety meats” or “with meat by-products” and then they must specify which variety meat is included.  Read your labels and be happy to know that Sabrett does not use variety meats.  Makes you want a hot dog real bad!  right?

July is National Hot Dog Month!!!  Be sure to celebrate it – send me a picture of your wiener!  wait.  Make sure it’s in a bun!  wait.  Make sure it’s Sabrett.  :)   Maybe I’ll have a hot dog party?

If you are a fan of Sabretts you can actually buy some cool merchandise from their website.  Check this out – I want an umbrella!

SANGRIA!!!!!!

SANGRIA is the bestestest summer drink!  My favorite EVEReverEVER

There is a history to Sangria, do you want to hear it?  I didn’t think so.  I’ll just tell you it has to do with Spain and blood.  If you’d like to learn more specifics you can visit this link:  http://www.sangriasecrets.com/the-history-of-sangria.html  WHO KNOWS it might all be true.

For me it didn’t begin 1964 at the world’s fair in New York City.  It began about ten years ago during a hot summer day.  Someone handed me a glass of deliciousness and I fell in love.  It’s refreshing, sweet and you get to eat some fruit soaked in wine.  Hello!

The only problem is that every year I forget how to make it.  So I go online and search for some recipes.  This year I typed into Google “best sangria ever” and this is what came up with some changes by ME.  There are hundreds of variations which can be found online and I’m sure some of you have a special way to make your own.  If so, let me know how you do it.  I’d love to perfect the Sangria and use the same recipe every year!

Oh, I added apples – you need apples because they soak up the wine and are sooooo tasty!!!! Duh – Yum.

Ingredients:                       (you can double it or triple it)

  • 1 Bottle of red wine or 2 :)
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 Orange
  • 1 apple
  • 1 Lime
  • 2 shots triple sec (i didn’t have any)
  • 2/3  Tbsp Sugar
  • Orange Juice
  • 1 Can of pineapples
  • 3 Cups ginger ale

TRY IT!  it’s easy!  and fun!  and yummy!

So – just pour wine into the container and then – ehhh just watch the video.  I just watched it and it’s almost like I am on speed making it!!! hahaha.  keep up!

Someone was really upset when I told them the amount of calories in Sangria!  – watch the Video:

SERIOUSLY – if you have your own recipe please share it with me or actually with us.  COME ON!  I’m sure there are some better recipes out there.  come on.

I have to share this.  My poor dog (Eli) getting stuck under the couch:

as I am preparing my latest movie this guy bothering me!  ;)

I hope you enjoyed and let me know after you drink a few sips how it is.  I want some feedback!!!!!!!!!!  please!

Wood Carving – thought it was easy

So let me tell you about my wood carving experience.  I had this awesome idea to carve a piece of wood into a great MASTERPIECE.  You see, there is an artist that creates these beautiful sculptures and I wanted to almost copy her but create something she doesn’t.  I wanted to create an image of a gay couple in love.  Nothing crazy!  Just two men or two women hugging or holding each other like the straight couples she creates.  Relax – it’s not like I am going to sell them.  ACTUALLY - it might take me two years to just finish the damn thing!  I can’t even create a single gay man – forget the couple.

Anyway – below is an example of one of her pieces, aren’t they lovely?  I’ve seen them in the Hallmark stores.  Her website is www.willowtreestore.com.  check it out.

It just looks so simple and so nice!  After many hours of carving and more research I discovered the bitch doesn’t even carve wood – it’s from some type of clay.  hahahaha – here I am getting blisters just trying to get wood off of the piece!  If I had the clay I could probably complete this mess in a few days not years.  She actually uses the clay and then sends it to China where they duplicate her work.  Even with my hands hurting I’m still a fan of her work, I just wish there were a few more pieces that reflected some of my life.  Oh, and she’s not a bitch, I take that back she’s a nice talented lady.

Below, are some pictures of my work.  I will continue with it and hopefully give you an update in the next few months.  I KNOW I could do something just as nice if I had the tools.  I don’t have the funds to get all these tools, but I’ll create something out of this - you’ll see!!! – wahh.

I was going to add a funny video to this entry but I couldn’t afford any actors.

 Silence!

Do you want to read a funny book and laugh your butt off – click below to read her first 6 pages – the book is soooooo funny!!!!!  I LOL thinking about her stories -

The Gym & Weight Loss (OH – and how to make my favorite summer dish)

Last year I was a little concerned with what my doctor told me.  He said, “Danny you are fat and you have high blood pressure.”  I was like, “no you didn’t!”  I was 30lbs overweight and it really did scare me.  When you tell Danny that he has high blood pressure basically he hears “Danny you are going to die of a heart attack on that roller coaster in Orlando and you are going to look like a fatty on beach this summer”  Mean, I know, but that IS what I heard.

I already belonged to a gym however I thought my 3 times a week doing a 16 minute work out was enough.  I actually spent more time getting changed and showering than I did on a treadmill.  HA!  I showed up 3 times a week but it didn’t matter.  It also didn’t help that my diet was just all wrong.  I mean COME ON, I was eating a lot of fast food and saying to myself, “Danny WTF you have been going to the gym doing these intense 16 minute workouts and you are not losing anything!?” (After weekends of White Castle & solo breakfasts made for 3)

Ricardo got me a free book from his job, the title is “Are you READY” by Bob Harper.  I’m sure the local library has it or you can borrow from me if you want.  OR, I can just briefly tell you what I learned from the book.  I lost 30 lbs and I do feel great however (Thank you! I’m hearing applause??? THANKS.  Stop please – Thanks. sit down!)  it wasn’t easy and it’s not easy keeping it off.  GURRRRL I am craving food all the time!  I learned that going to the gym means NOTHING if you are not changing your eating/drinking habits.  You need to count calories at first if you want to lose weight.  YOU HAVE TO.  It’s a fact that if you are burning more calories than you are taking in you WILL lose weight.  SOOOOOO – why not try it?  Change up your habits, eat more veggies, drop all fast food, less sugar, smaller portions, no candy bars, go for a walk 3 times a week – get active!  One thing I can GUARANTEE is that after a good workout you will feel GREAT!  it’s just the truth.  The book states that you need to count your calories, and put in some good excercise and then you will lose it!  It worked for me.  Simple.  (and you can cheat every so often – I do!)

In the beginning I used this great tool www.myfitnesspal.com.  It helps you determine how many calories are in a particular food.  It was great and after about 2-3 weeks you will be able to calculate this in your head.  If you have an iPhone there is an app for this too.

I still have slightly high blood pressure but I still ride the roller coasters and my doc says I am fine.  I WILL always have a belly – it will NEVER go away.  Thanks mom and dad for that.  :)

I just wanted to share this because it worked for me - both the book as motivation and the link above to help me keep track of calorie intake.  As always consult your doctor about EVERYTHING and in the end we should all just be happy and healthy even with a few extra pounds.  :)

This is my first and LAST entry about weight and excercise – too depressing.  Now let me share the video of how to make my favorite summer dish.  enjoy!  (I was a little buzzed during this)
